Chicago (InsuranceAgents.com) – The average homeowners insurance rate varies from state to state, house to house, homeowner to homeowner. Countless factors go into determining what you inevitably pay for homeowners insurance, according to a recent InsuranceAgents.com article, ‘Not So Typical Homeowners Insurance Rates.’

Your current lifestyle, whether or not you have a family pet, the cost, age and condition of your home, the neighborhood your home is in, as well as the state in which you live, can all drastically affect home insurance quotes, just to name a few.

“Although just by living in the state you do you are determining how relatively high or low your homeowners insurance rates will be, that does not mean you have to live with astronomically high rates,” the article states. “By simply doing the little things you can surprise yourself with how you much power you have in changing your typical homeowners insurance rates into lower homeowners insurance rates.”

There are several ways to reduce your homeowners insurance rates, including:

1. Making your home more low-risk – Installing various anti-theft and anti-fire devices in your home can significantly reduce your homeowners insurance rates. Invest in smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, deadbolt locks, and a modern security system. It shows your insurance company that you are doing what you can to keep your home and belongings safe.
2. Maintaining proper upkeep of your home – “Fixing minor problems that arise throughout your home living experience is another way to lower your insurance. By maintaining the upkeep of your home you are showing your insurance company that you take the quality and safety of your home seriously,” the article states.
